Veil Cosmetics AutoMatte Mattifying Balm & Touch Up
Why you need it: Seamlessly mattify your skin, without the build up that loose or pressed powder creates.
Why I love it: A big part of my job as a makeup artist is ensuring that my client's skin looks like skin, even after a very long day of press promoting a film, or on a photo shoot. Powder can make the skin look cakey, dry and even accentuate lines and wrinkles when applied too liberally. AutoMatte dulls shine in a very controlled way, and doesn't flatten out the skin making it look makeup-y. You can use it as a primer under makeup, or use it for spot controlling oil and doing touch ups, without creating buildup and without disturbing the makeup you've already applied. Having oily skin, I can 100% speak to the wonder of this product; I like my skin to look fresh, not dull, but sometimes blotting paper isn't enough and powder is too much. AutoMatte falls happily in the middle ground and keeps skin looking fresh and beautiful. I also love that it can be applied with the sponge that comes with it for easy on-the-go touch ups, a brush, or even your fingers. Super versatile, which is always something I deeply value in a product, as a makeup artist and as a makeup wearer.
As a Mattifier: Using the sponge in the compact, rub in a circular motion onto the AutoMatte’s surface. Gently apply to the skin where shine tends to surface throughout the day. The same technique applies for finger application; rub your finger tip in a circular motion to pick up product, then smooth onto complexion. You can also use a flat dense brush like a concealer or foundation brush; rub the AutoMatte’s surface back and forth, then smooth onto the desired area.
As a Touch-Up: Over bare skin, rub or pat on using a sponge/brush/finger over the desired area to take away excess shine. Over makeup, it is best not to rub the skin’ surface as makeup could come off. When using the provided sponge, a press and roll motion is ideal to take the shine away and lock into place existing makeup. Veiling one small area at a time, reload every 2-3 press-roll motions for optimized results. When touching up with a clean finger, gently rub to warm up the mattifier’s surface then pat onto skin wherever shine needs neutralizing. When using a brush, load up the bristles by rubbing back and forth the AutoMatte’ surface, then pat gently onto the area to mattify.
