The Beauty Shortlist

Do you ever wonder how I decide what makes it onto the shelves of Reed Clarke?

As someone who touches products for a living, a unique quality has to jump out at me to get my attention.

Sometimes it’s the formula, if there’s something special about how it feels on the skin, like how the Addiction Tokyo Glow Stick in "Feel the Heat, See the Light" leaves a juicy highlight on the cheek or the surprising springiness of the Superegg Phytobounce Eye Cream. After experiencing the exciting, bracing scent of the Noto Resurface Scrub I placed a purchase order the very next day.

Some products catch you off guard.

Magic Dust Dry Shampoo stole my heart with their innovative pump delivery because frankly, they built a better mousetrap. A friend showed me the Santen BeautEye Drops upon returning from Japan, and I was dumbstruck by the careful design that went into the packaging of such a utilitarian product. I had to have it on the site. In the case of the brilliant little No. 1 Untitled Multi-Use Powder Brush, it was a fresh take on a beauty staple which then became a staple in my kit.

Some products are things I never would have dreamed of.

A long time favorite on the site (and of astronauts!) is the category defying Ponaris Nasal Emollient. Another is Crazy Dry Wax, a hard-to-find Japanese import that really lives up to it’s name by the way. And sometimes it’s that the product is just the most perfect example of its category. This is true of The Rich Cream from Augustinus Bader which is honestly the most incredible moisturizer I’ve ever used, backed by serious science. You have to try it.

Everything on the site has a little sprinkle of magic to it. I hope they make your day - and beauty routine - just a little bit brighter.
